What is the average hearing aid price in India?

The average hearing aid price in India starts from ₹14,999 for basic digital hearing aids and goes up to ₹3,00,000+ for advanced invisible or AI-powered models. The final cost depends on the brand, features, technology level, and type of hearing aid you choose.

Why do hearing aid prices vary so much?

Hearing aid prices in India vary based on factors like technology level, sound processing quality, Bluetooth connectivity, rechargeability, invisibility, and brand reputation. Basic models offer essential amplification, while premium hearing aids provide advanced speech clarity, automatic noise adaptation, smartphone control, and tinnitus masking.

What is the price of invisible hearing aids in India?

Invisible hearing aid prices in India typically range between ₹49,999 and ₹2,50,000. These are custom-made to fit deep inside the ear canal, making them nearly invisible while delivering natural sound quality.

What is the cost of rechargeable hearing aids in India?

Rechargeable hearing aids in India start from ₹29,000 and can go up to ₹2,80,000 depending on the model. They eliminate the need for regular battery changes and are popular for their convenience and eco-friendliness.

Which is the best hearing aid under ₹30,000?

In the ₹15,000–₹30,000 range, reliable Behind-The-Ear (BTE) digital hearing aids from brands like Signia, Phonak, and Widex offer good sound quality, noise reduction, and basic rechargeability. These are ideal for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Do hearing aid prices include consultation and fitting?

Most reputed clinics and providers include a free hearing test, consultation with an audiologist, and basic fitting in the hearing aid price. Some advanced features like real-ear measurement or fine-tuning may cost extra depending on the clinic.

Can I buy hearing aids on EMI or with insurance?

Yes. Many authorized hearing aid providers in India offer flexible EMI options starting as low as ₹2,00,000/month. Some insurance policies may cover partial or full costs depending on the plan. It's best to check with your insurer and clinic.

Are branded hearing aids more expensive?

Yes. Top brands like Signia, Phonak, Widex, and Oticon typically cost more due to their advanced research, reliable performance, and after-sales service. However, they offer better clarity, longer lifespan, and superior comfort compared to low-cost local models.

Where can I find the best price for hearing aids in India?

You can compare hearing aid prices online and through authorized clinics. At Hearing Solutions (Fairfield Hearing), we offer up to 50% OFF on genuine digital hearing aids with price-match guarantees, free consultations, and nationwide service support.

Hearing Aid Price in India 2026: Why Chasing the Biggest Discount Is the Most Expensive Mistake You Can Make

From our article: Hearing Aid Price in India 2026: Why Chasing the Biggest Discount Is the Most Expensive Mistake You Can Make

What is the price of a hearing aid in India in 2026?

Published Indian prices run from roughly Rs 25,000 to Rs 8,50,000, and most buyers spend between Rs 30,000 and Rs 2,50,000 per device. The market is usually described in three bands: entry level at roughly Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000, mid range at Rs 50,000 to Rs 2,00,000, and premium above Rs 2,00,000. Always establish whether a quoted price is per ear or per pair, because this is the commonest source of confusion in Indian hearing care.

Is GST charged on hearing aids in India?

Complete hearing aids falling under HSN heading 9021 attract a nil rate of GST in India. However, the Appellate Authority for Advance Ruling has held that parts and accessories falling under tariff item 9021 90 10 are not covered by that exemption and are taxable at 18 per cent. Ask for a tax invoice showing the HSN code and the tax treatment line by line, and consult your own accountant on anything significant.

What is the difference between a hearing aid and an ear machine?

A hearing aid is a regulated Class B medical device under the Medical Device Rules, 2017, requiring CDSCO registration, and it is programmed to your specific audiogram with a safe maximum output set by the fitter. Much of what is sold cheaply online as an ear machine is a simple sound amplifier that makes everything louder without being matched to your hearing and often without a properly controlled output ceiling.

Why do two shops quote very different prices for the same hearing aid?

Usually one of four reasons. The technology level may differ even though the family name is the same. One price may be per ear and the other per pair. The service package may differ substantially in what it includes. Or the devices may genuinely be priced differently. Get both quotations in writing with the exact model, level and inclusions stated before comparing.

Is it worth paying more for a premium hearing aid?

We do not offer a verdict, because it depends entirely on your hearing loss and your life. What the evidence does show is that a premium device fitted without verification can perform below a properly fitted mid-range device. Independent laboratory testing of a 2026 flagship found it performed worse than the model it replaced on default settings, and earned a top grade once fitted with real-ear measurement. Spending more on the device while spending nothing on the fitting is the combination most likely to disappoint.

How much does CGHS pay towards a hearing aid?

Under the Office Memorandum dated 9 September 2026, the ceiling is the actual expenditure or Rs 30,000 per ear, whichever is lower, inclusive of GST and all other applicable taxes, with up to Rs 60,000 for a clinically justified bilateral fitting. Replacement is permitted only after five years from the previous purchase, and the device must carry a minimum three-year comprehensive warranty.

What is real-ear measurement and why does it matter so much?

Real-ear measurement places a very thin microphone in your ear canal while the hearing aid is working, so the fitter can see what sound is actually reaching your eardrum and correct it against the prescription target for your hearing loss. ISO 21388:2020 recommends its routine use, and both ASHA and the American Academy of Audiology recommend it over relying on manufacturer default settings. Research has associated its use with an 18 per cent improvement in patient satisfaction and fewer follow-up visits.

Should I buy a hearing aid online to save money?

That is your decision and we will not make it for you. What we would say is that the purchase and the fitting are separable in principle but rarely in practice. If you buy online, plan and budget for who will programme the device to your audiogram, verify the output in your ear, adjust it over the following months, and reprogramme it as your hearing changes over the next five years. If you have a clear answer to all of that, an online purchase may work well. If you do not, the saving may be temporary.

Signia IX Series, Three Years On: The Flagship That Scored Worse Than the Model It Replaced - Until Someone Fitted It Properly

From our article: Signia IX Series, Three Years On: The Flagship That Scored Worse Than the Model It Replaced - Until Someone Fitted It Properly

What is the difference between Signia IX and Signia AX?

Augmented Xperience (AX) is the previous generation. Both use Signia's Augmented Focus split processing, which handles speech and background noise separately. IX adds RealTime Conversation Enhancement, which uses multiple simultaneous focus streams to track several moving speakers rather than steering a single beam. IX also improved battery life from 34 hours to up to 39 hours. Independent testing found IX superior to AX once professionally fitted, but actually worse than AX when left on manufacturer default settings.

What is RealTime Conversation Enhancement?

It is Signia's system for following group conversations. It works in three stages: Analyze, processing 192,000 data points per second to detect speakers; Augment, using multiple focus streams to highlight each speaker's voice in noise; and Adapt, with a Multi-Stream Architecture that updates 1,000 times per second as the conversation moves. Note that the feature is reduced at lower technology levels and is not available in the Silk models.

Is the Signia IX good for hearing in noisy places?

Independent HearAdvisor testing found that when professionally programmed with real-ear measurement, Signia Pure Charge&Go IX performed competitively with other flagship prescription hearing aids and earned an A SoundGrade, with an estimated 50% improvement in word recognition compared with listening unaided in the test conditions. On manufacturer default settings the result was considerably poorer, so proper fitting is essential to get this benefit.

What is the battery life of the Signia Pure Charge&Go IX?

Signia states up to 39 hours without streaming and up to 34 hours with five hours of streaming. The BCT IX version, which uses more power-hungry Bluetooth Classic, is rated at 36 hours including up to five hours of streaming. Styletto IX offers up to 20 hours. Recharging takes roughly three to four hours, and the Pure Portable Charger provides three additional full charges away from mains power.

Are there known problems with the Signia IX?

The most frequently discussed issue among long-term owners is directional control. Some wearers moving from older Signia models felt they had lost the ability to focus the microphones forward manually. Other owners in the same discussions say the app does this easily, including narrowing the focus to 15 degrees. Other reported points include occasional Bluetooth disconnection on iPad and Android, feedback where closed domes were used instead of custom moulds, and the absence of any disposable battery option. The most consistently documented weakness is the manufacturer's default programming, which independent testing showed under-amplifies.

What is the price of Signia IX hearing aids in India?

Indian pricing varies very widely between sellers. Indicative pair prices are approximately Rs 7,24,990 for the 7IX, Rs 4,99,900 for the 5IX and Rs 3,49,990 for the 3IX, while published Indian per-unit listings range from roughly Rs 43,990 to Rs 3,79,990 depending on level and retailer. Always obtain a written quotation stating the exact model, technology level, whether the price is per ear or per pair, and what fitting, follow-up and warranty are included.

Does the Signia Silk Charge&Go IX have Bluetooth?

No. The Silk Charge&Go IX was the world's first rechargeable, instant-fit completely-in-canal hearing aid, but to achieve its very small size it gives up the Bluetooth LE Audio streaming available in the rest of the IX range, and it does not have a telecoil. It does include a built-in power bank and can be charged by USB or a Qi wireless charger. If direct phone streaming matters to you, Silk is not the right model.

Is the Signia IX still worth buying now that a newer platform exists?

We do not offer a verdict. What can be said factually is that Signia launched the Pure Charge&Go MaX on a new platform on 24 August 2026, so IX is now the previous generation. That usually means discounting, and a previous-generation flagship with three years of firmware maturity and published independent lab results can represent strong value. The key is the price gap: the advantage of buying last year's flagship lies entirely in the discount, so ask what that discount actually is.

Phonak Infinio and Infinio Sphere, Two Years On: The AI Hearing Aid That Fixed Its Own Worst Flaw - For Free

From our article: Phonak Infinio and Infinio Sphere, Two Years On: The AI Hearing Aid That Fixed Its Own Worst Flaw - For Free

What is the difference between Phonak Infinio and Phonak Infinio Sphere?

Both are built on Phonak's Infinio platform and both contain the ERA chip. Only the Sphere models contain a second, dedicated chip called DEEPSONIC, which runs a deep neural network in real time to separate speech from noise. This is what powers Spheric Speech Clarity. The difference is not cosmetic: independent HearAdvisor testing measured the Sphere at 2.6 points above the category average for speech in noise, while the standard Audeo R Infinio 90 measured only 0.37 points above average on the same metric.

Is the Phonak Infinio Sphere good for hearing in noisy places?

Independent laboratory testing supports this as its strongest area. HearAdvisor gave the Infinio Ultra Sphere a SoundScore of 4.9 out of 5 with an A grade, and at the time of testing it held the second-highest SoundScore of any prescription hearing aid the lab had measured, beaten only by Phonak's own newer EON model. Its speech-in-noise result was 2.6 points above the category average. Note that the advanced denoising only activates in genuinely loud environments, at around 72 dBA.

What is Infinio Ultra, and do I have to buy a new hearing aid to get it?

Infinio Ultra, launched in November 2025, is a firmware upgrade rather than a new device, and Phonak made it available free to all existing Infinio and Sphere owners. It reduced power consumption by 30%, taking continuous Sphere mode from 5-7 hours to 10-11 hours, and added AutoSense OS 7.0, a retrained Spheric Speech Clarity 2.0, faster one-step Bluetooth connectivity and the EasyGuard wax-protection dome system.

What is the battery life of the Phonak Infinio Sphere?

It depends heavily on how much you use the AI mode. Following the Infinio Ultra update, Phonak states continuous Sphere mode gives about 10-11 hours, compared with 5-7 hours before the update. When Sphere mode and streaming are not being used, battery life exceeds 50 hours. The standard non-Sphere Audeo Infinio Ultra R is rated up to 31 hours. Some owners in very noisy environments have still reported battery life falling short of their needs.

Are there known problems with Phonak Infinio Sphere?

The most widely discussed issue is Bluetooth connectivity. A forum thread running from August 2025 to August 2026 collected 154 replies from 58 participants, with reports of streaming dropouts, app connection failures, the link between the two hearing aids dropping, and occasional spontaneous restarts. However, several long-term owners in the same thread report excellent Bluetooth stability, with one describing it as the most reliable he has used. Other commonly mentioned points are the device's larger physical size, a somewhat tinny sound character in Spheric mode, the absence of a telecoil, and Auracast not yet being enabled.

Does the fitting really make a difference to performance?

Yes, and it is measurable. Independent testing of the same Infinio Ultra Sphere showed a normalised fit score of 4.8 at the manufacturer's default settings, rising to 5.2 after professional tuning, with speech-in-noise performance improving as well. A premium hearing aid fitted casually can perform worse than a mid-range hearing aid fitted properly with real-ear measurement.

Is the AI in the Phonak Sphere real innovation or just marketing?

We do not offer a verdict. The evidence points in both directions and readers can weigh it themselves. Supporting the innovation: an independent laboratory confirmed the speech-in-noise advantage, the second dedicated chip is a real architectural change with real costs, and a 30% power improvement was delivered free by firmware. Supporting scepticism: most headline figures come from Phonak's own Field Study News rather than independent peer-reviewed journals, the widely quoted 61% speech improvement actually requires a separately purchased Roger microphone, and the AI benefit applies only to the Sphere models rather than the whole Infinio range.

What is the price of the Phonak Infinio Sphere in India?

Indian pricing varies considerably between sellers. Published Indian listings we could locate quoted approximately Rs 4,55,500 for the Audeo Sphere Infinio and approximately Rs 8,75,000 per pair for the Sphere Infinio 90, figures that are consistent if the first is per ear. These should be treated as indicative only and confirmed with an authorised clinic, as offers, technology level and included services vary widely.

Bernafon Revita: The AI Hearing Aid That Listens to the Whole Table

From our article: Bernafon Revita: The AI Hearing Aid That Listens to the Whole Table

What is different about the Bernafon Revita hearing aid?

Revita's distinctive design goal is helping the wearer follow speech coming from the sides and from changing angles, not only from directly in front. Bernafon's reasoning is that real conversation is dynamic and flows between people speaking at different angles. It uses two artificial-intelligence technologies to do this: AI Smart Speech Finder, which actively locates people who are speaking wherever they are, and AI Smart Noise Reduction, which identifies disruptive background noise to improve clarity and listening comfort.

What are the four Bernafon Revita technology levels?

Revita 100 CONNECT is built for one-to-one conversation in low noise. Revita 200 GO is for one-to-one conversation in noisy places, indoors and outdoors. Revita 300 ENGAGE is for group conversation in noisy environments such as cafes and busy streets. Revita 400 PRO is the most advanced level, intended for groups in very noisy environments. Unusually, Bernafon names its levels after the social situation rather than using technical tier numbers.

Which styles is Bernafon Revita available in?

At launch, Revita is listed in a single style - the rechargeable miniRITE R, available in eight colours - together with a CROS II miniRITE R for single-sided deafness. There are no Revita custom in-the-ear models such as IIC, CIC or ITC at launch. It fits slight to profound hearing loss using the miniFit Detect speaker system in four power levels.

Is Bernafon Revita the same as Oticon Reveal?

Bernafon and Oticon are both part of the Demant group. Demant publicly stated that its new flagship Dual AI technology, launched in August 2026 as Oticon Reveal, would be introduced across its other hearing aid brands during the second half of 2026, and Revita launched in that window with a two-AI-network architecture. It is therefore reasonable to conclude that Revita is Bernafon's implementation of that platform, but Bernafon has not published a platform name and neither company has stated in so many words that the two share a chip. Your audiologist can confirm the technical details from professional documentation.

Does Bernafon Revita support Auracast?

Yes. Bernafon states that Revita supports Auracast broadcast audio, accessed through the Bernafon App, giving the example of hearing public announcements such as train information directly in the hearing aids. Bernafon's product page carries a footnote stating this is compatible through the Bernafon App with Android 10 or later, so it is worth confirming the requirements for your specific phone.

How long does the Bernafon Revita battery last?

Bernafon states that Revita's rechargeable battery gives a full day of power from a one-hour charge. Bernafon offers the Bernafon Charger miniRITE, Charger Plus and Charger Plus X. For exact runtime figures in hours, including runtime while streaming, ask your audiologist for the published technical data sheet, as streaming consumes considerably more power.

Is Bernafon Revita available in India, and what is the price?

Bernafon has a long-established presence in India, but at the time of writing no confirmed Indian launch date or official price for Revita had been published. Any Indian price quoted online today should be treated as an estimate. Note also that Bernafon is part of the Danish Demant group, not Sonova, despite what some Indian dealer websites state.

Is Bernafon Revita better than ReSound Sensia, Phonak Audeo EON Sphere or Signia Pure Charge&Go MaX?

We do not offer a verdict, and we would be cautious about anyone who does at this stage. All four launched within weeks of each other in 2026, all four use artificial intelligence for speech in noise, and independent laboratory testing of all four was still pending. They follow genuinely different design philosophies that suit different listeners - Revita looks for voices from any direction, while ReSound Sensia prioritises the person you face. The reliable way to decide is a supervised trial with a qualified audiologist in the environments where you actually struggle.

ReSound Sensia: The AI Hearing Aid That Listens Where You Look

From our article: ReSound Sensia: The AI Hearing Aid That Listens Where You Look

Does ReSound Sensia actually track my eyes?

No. There is no camera and no eye sensor. Sensia uses a four-microphone beam aimed in the direction your head is facing, on the reasonable assumption that you turn towards the person you want to hear. The phrase 'listens where you look' describes head direction, not eye tracking.

What is the real difference between ReSound Sensia and ReSound Vivia?

GN states that Sensia uses the same chips and essentially the same neural network as Vivia. The difference is automation and control logic. On Vivia, the strongest DNN noise reduction had to be selected manually through a dedicated hearing-in-noise programme. On Sensia 9 the hearing aid recognises a difficult speech-in-noise environment and engages that processing by itself, combined with the binaural beamformer.

Can existing ReSound Vivia users upgrade to Sensia by firmware?

No. Although the hardware is shared, GN chose not to extend Sensia's new signal-processing and automatic-steering capabilities to Vivia. GN cited both regulatory considerations in some markets and a commercial judgement that the changes warrant a separate product family.

How long does Sensia take to switch on its strongest noise processing?

GN's Katie Ogden stated it can take about a minute before Sensia enters its Speech Intelligibility mode and automatically engages DNN denoising. The system samples the environment roughly every 1.5 milliseconds and consolidates information every three to four seconds, but waits for a consistent pattern of conversation. This is deliberate, to avoid unstable switching between modes.

Is ReSound Sensia available in India, and what does it cost?

At the time of writing, India was not among the announced first markets, which were the United States, Germany and Austria from 20 August 2026. GN Hearing had not published an Indian launch date or price. Any Indian price quoted online today should be treated as an estimate rather than an official figure.

Is Sensia better than the Phonak Audeo EON Sphere or the Signia Pure Charge&Go MaX?

We do not offer a verdict, and we would be cautious about anyone who does at this stage. All three launched within weeks of each other in 2026, all three use artificial intelligence for speech in noise, and independent laboratory testing of all three was still pending. They follow different design philosophies that suit different listeners. The reliable way to decide is a supervised trial with a qualified audiologist in the environments where you actually struggle.

Does Sensia handle music well?

Sensia deliberately does not automatically classify music. GN's reasoning is that the hearing aid cannot know whether a wearer at a live music venue wants to hear the band or the person opposite them. The automatic programme prioritises speech; if you want to focus on music you select a dedicated music programme manually.

Signia MaX vs Phonak EON Sphere: Two Flagships, One Launch Day, Opposite Ideas of Better Hearing

From our article: Signia MaX vs Phonak EON Sphere: Two Flagships, One Launch Day, Opposite Ideas of Better Hearing

Which is better, Signia MaX or Phonak EON Sphere?

Neither is better in general. They are built on opposite philosophies: Phonak concentrates one powerful AI chip on separating speech from noise, while Signia uses four networks to manage the whole listening scene including your own voice. Independent laboratory testing of both was still pending at the time of writing, so the honest answer depends on your hearing test, your hardest listening situations and a real trial [2][4].

What is the main difference between them?

The AI architecture. Phonak uses a dedicated HYPERSONIC chip focused on speech separation; Signia uses four task-specific deep neural networks that share information about speech, your own voice, the sound scene and noise [1][2][4].

Which has better battery life?

Phonak claims up to 38 hours; Signia claims up to 30 hours. Phonak also gives a heavy-use example of about 22 hours including eight hours of streaming. Real battery life varies with streaming, hearing loss and battery age [2][4].

Which one has Auracast working now?

Phonak EON Sphere includes Auracast at launch. Signia's Pure Charge&Go MaX is Auracast-ready, with full functionality promised via a firmware update by March 2027. Note that Auracast also needs venues to install transmitters, and Indian adoption is still very limited [1][4].

Which is better if my own voice sounds strange?

Signia. Its Own Voice Processing is a headline feature and now works immediately without in-clinic calibration. This is one of the most common reasons new users give up on hearing aids [1][2].

Which is better for single-sided deafness?

Phonak, because the EON platform includes a CROS EON R for unaidable hearing loss in one ear. Signia's first MaX release is the Pure Charge&Go only [1][3].

Do either of them have a telecoil?

Signia includes a telecoil in its OneConnect package. The headline Phonak EON Sphere RIC does not. If you rely on loop systems, this favours Signia [1][2][4].

Are these available in India and what do they cost?

Neither was in the first launch wave on 24 August 2026, and neither company published pricing. Indian pricing is set locally and varies by technology level. Please check with an authorised hearing centre for current status [1][4].

Should I upgrade from my current hearing aids?

If your present devices work well, there is no urgency. Phonak stated that EON was designed to deliver similar performance more efficiently rather than to hear dramatically better, and Signia's MaX is an evolution of its IX platform. Upgrade if size, battery, connectivity or own-voice comfort specifically matter to you [2][4].

Four AI Brains in One Ear: What Signia's New Pure Charge&Go MaX Really Delivers

From our article: Four AI Brains in One Ear: What Signia's New Pure Charge&Go MaX Really Delivers

What is Signia Pure Charge&Go MaX?

It is the first hearing aid on Signia's new MaX (Multi-adaptive Xperience) platform, launched on 24 August 2026. It is a rechargeable receiver-in-canal device that runs four task-specific deep neural networks - for speech, the wearer's own voice, the sound scene and noise - under the name Acoustic Intelligence [1][2].

Is "four DNNs" really better than one AI chip?

Not automatically. Signia argues that four specialised networks give a more complete understanding and a more scalable design, which is a credible engineering argument. But independent commentary has noted that four DNNs are not inherently better than one, and that specifications do not guarantee better hearing outcomes [2].

What does "Live Noisy" actually mean?

It is Signia's campaign slogan and also its technical argument: rather than trying to remove as much background sound as possible, the system aims to keep enough of the environment for you to feel present while still making speech clear. The idea is to stay part of the room instead of being sealed off from it [2].

What is genuinely new in the Signia MaX chip?

Signia reports 54 times more processing power, twice the memory and 50% greater energy efficiency compared with its previous IX platform. That is a substantial hardware jump, needed to run four networks continuously all day [1][2].

Does Signia MaX have Auracast?

The hardware supports it, but it is not fully enabled at launch. Signia states that full Auracast functionality will be delivered by a firmware update through the Signia One app by March 2027. Also, Auracast only works in venues that install transmitters, and adoption in India is still very limited [1].

What is Own Voice Processing and why does it matter?

It keeps your own voice sounding natural rather than boomy or strange - a very common complaint among new hearing aid users. In MaX it works immediately without the in-clinic calibration step that earlier versions required, which makes it more likely to actually be used [1][2].

How long does the battery last?

Signia states up to 30 hours, varying with streaming and listening conditions. The portable charger holds up to four full charges, gives a full charge in about four hours, and provides roughly six hours of use from a 30-minute charge [1][2].

Is Signia MaX available in India, and what does it cost?

India was not in the first launch markets (USA, Germany and the Nordics on 24 August 2026), with most other markets following later in 2026. Pricing had not been published and is set locally in India. Please check with an authorised hearing centre for current status [1][2].

Phonak EON Sphere, EON R and CROS EON: Real Innovation or Just Clever Marketing?

From our article: Phonak EON Sphere, EON R and CROS EON: Real Innovation or Just Clever Marketing?

What is the difference between Phonak Audéo EON Sphere and EON R?

EON Sphere is the flagship, with a second dedicated AI chip (HYPERSONIC) running Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0 to separate speech from background noise in real time. EON R is the standard model with AutoSense OS AI 8.0 and Auracast connectivity, but without that AI speech-separation technology [1][3][4].

Is the HYPERSONIC chip real innovation or marketing?

It is genuine new hardware. Phonak reports it runs the same real-time AI using 37% less power, which is what allows the device to be 25% smaller, 20% lighter and last up to 38 hours. Existing Infinio devices cannot be upgraded to EON by software [4][5].

Will EON Sphere make me hear better than Infinio Sphere?

Not necessarily. Phonak is not claiming a dramatic jump in speech-in-noise performance over Infinio Ultra. The main gains are size, weight, battery, connectivity, and availability at more technology levels [4].

What is CROS EON R used for?

It is for single-sided deafness — unaidable hearing loss in one ear. Worn on the non-hearing side, it sends sound wirelessly to a Phonak Audéo EON R on the better ear, so you stop missing speech from your deaf side. It is rechargeable with up to 20 hours of battery [3].

What is Auracast and can I use it in India?

Auracast is a Bluetooth broadcast standard that lets venues send audio directly to your hearing aids, like joining a Wi-Fi network for sound. It is genuinely useful, but depends on venues installing transmitters. Adoption in India is still at a very early stage [5][6].

What is the price of Phonak EON in India?

Phonak had not published pricing at the time of writing, and India was not in the first announced launch markets. Prices in India are set locally and vary by technology level (90, 70 or 50). Please check with an authorised hearing centre for current information [4][5].

Should I upgrade from my current Phonak hearing aids?

If your present devices work well for you, there is no urgency — especially since Phonak is not promising a large hearing improvement. Upgrading makes most sense if size, battery life, connectivity or access to Sphere at a lower technology level matters to you.

Unitron Smile vs Phonak Infinio: Same Chip, Two Very Different Hearing Aids *An Audiologist's Simple, Honest Comparison (2026)*

From our article: Unitron Smile vs Phonak Infinio: Same Chip, Two Very Different Hearing Aids *An Audiologist's Simple, Honest Comparison (2026)*

### Are Unitron and Phonak the same company?

They are sister brands owned by the same Swiss parent company, Sonova. They share core technology, and both current platforms are built on Sonova's ERA chip, though each brand has its own features and philosophy [5].

### What is the main difference between Unitron Smile and Phonak Infinio?

Both use the same ERA chip. Phonak's Sphere versions add a second, dedicated AI chip (DEEPSONIC) purely for separating speech from noise, while Unitron Smile focuses on AI-based automatic sound, comfort, value and its try-before-you-buy Flex trial [1][2][4].

### Is Phonak Infinio better than Unitron Smile?

Not automatically. For very noisy environments, Phonak Infinio Sphere offers the strongest noise technology of the two. For value, comfort and the ability to trial and compare technology levels at home, Unitron Smile is very attractive. The best choice depends on your hearing test and lifestyle.

### What is the DEEPSONIC chip?

It is a dedicated AI chip in Phonak's Sphere models whose only job is separating speech from background noise in real time. It is reported to have around 53 times the processing power of earlier Phonak chips [2].

### What is the Unitron Flex trial?

It lets you wear hearing aids at home for a trial period, and allows your audiologist to program the same device to different technology levels so you can compare them in real life before deciding [4].

### Are these hearing aids available in India?

Availability, model names and pricing vary by country and change over time. Please check with an authorised hearing centre for what is currently available near you.

### Which is better for severe hearing loss?

Both families offer options for stronger hearing losses, often with a more powerful receiver and a custom earmold. The right device and power level must be chosen by an audiologist from your hearing test.

Your Earbuds Are Becoming Hearing Aids

From our article: Your Earbuds Are Becoming Hearing Aids

Can Samsung Galaxy Buds really work as hearing aids?

Yes. Samsung's Galaxy Buds Hearing Aid feature is FDA-cleared and will roll out from late 2026 on the Galaxy Buds3 Pro and Buds4 Pro, for adults with mild-to-moderate hearing loss - with clear limits [1][2].

What is NAL-NL2?

NAL-NL2 is a widely used professional formula that decides how much a hearing aid should boost each pitch so speech is clear at a comfortable loudness. Audiologists use it for prescription hearing aids, and Samsung's feature uses it too [1].

Are earbud hearing aids as good as prescription hearing aids?

They can help mild-to-moderate loss, but they are not a full replacement. They have limited power, no professional fitting or aftercare, shorter wear time, and are not for stronger losses [3][5].

Is this available in India?

These features roll out country by country and need local approvals, so availability in India may differ and can change. Please check the manufacturer for the current status. A professional hearing test is always available locally.

Does the earbud hearing test replace a clinic test?

No. It is a useful screening check, not a medical diagnosis. Some hearing loss has medical causes - such as wax or infection - that only a professional can find and treat.

Who should still see an audiologist?

Anyone with more than mild-to-moderate loss, one-sided or sudden loss, ear pain or discharge, and children or older adults with real hearing difficulty.

Are Your Earphones Damaging Your Hearing? A Simple Guide to Safe Listening

From our article: Are Your Earphones Damaging Your Hearing? A Simple Guide to Safe Listening

Can earphones really cause permanent hearing loss?

Yes. Loud sound damages the inner-ear hair cells, which do not grow back, so the loss is permanent. The encouraging part is that it is preventable with safe listening [3][1].

How loud and how long is safe?

As a guide, about 85 dB for up to 8 hours; the louder it gets, the less time is safe - roughly 15 minutes at 100 dB [1]. An easy habit is the 60/60 rule: 60% volume, 60 minutes, then a break [5].

Are earbuds worse than over-ear headphones?

What matters most is volume and time, not the shape. Noise-cancelling headphones can actually help, because you do not turn the volume up to cover background noise [1].

What are the first warning signs?

Ringing in the ears (tinnitus), muffled or dull sound, or difficulty understanding speech in noisy places - especially after loud listening [4].

Is the ringing after a concert dangerous?

It is a warning that your ears had too much. It often fades, but repeated episodes can cause lasting damage, so protect your ears next time and rest them [3].

My child uses earphones a lot - what should I do?

Use volume-limited children's headphones, set daily time limits, and arrange a hearing check if you notice any warning signs.

From our article: Can AirPods Be Used as Hearing Aids? What Apple's Hearing Aid Feature Can and Cannot Do

Can AirPods really work as hearing aids?

Yes. AirPods Pro 2 and Pro 3 have an FDA-authorized Hearing Aid feature for adults with mild-to-moderate hearing loss, but it has clear limits and is not a full replacement for hearing aids [1][2][4].

Are AirPods as good as real hearing aids?

No. They can help in some situations, but they have less power, no professional tuning, shorter wear time, and are only for up to moderate hearing loss [4][5].

Can children use the AirPods hearing aid feature?

No. The feature is intended for adults aged 18 and older [1].

Is the AirPods hearing aid feature available in India?

Availability varies by country and has been limited or pending in India. Please check Apple's official availability page for the current status [3].

Can it replace a hearing test at a clinic?

No. The built-in test is a useful screen, not a medical diagnosis. Some hearing loss has medical causes that only a professional can find [4].

Who should still see an audiologist?

How to Choose the Right RIC Hearing Aid: Receiver Power Levels & Fit Explained

From our article: How to Choose the Right RIC Hearing Aid: Receiver Power Levels & Fit Explained

What does RIC mean in a hearing aid?

RIC means Receiver-In-Canal. The receiver is the small speaker of the hearing aid, and in a RIC device it sits inside your ear canal, connected to the main body by a thin wire.

What do S, M, P and HP or UP mean on a RIC receiver?

They are power levels of the receiver: Standard (S) for mild-to-moderate loss, Medium (M) for moderate loss, Power (P) for moderately-severe to severe loss, and High-Power (HP) or Ultra Power (UP) for severe loss. Your audiologist chooses the right one from your hearing test [2].

Can I change the receiver power myself?

No. The receiver must match your hearing test, and the hearing aid has to be re-programmed when it is changed. Only a qualified audiologist should do this [2].

Are domes or custom earmolds better for a RIC?

Neither is “better” in general. Domes are quick and natural-feeling and suit milder losses; custom earmolds seal better and suit stronger losses or when domes cause whistling [3].

How long does a RIC receiver last?

With good care, usually about one to two years. Wax and moisture shorten its life, so wax guards and a nightly drying box help a lot [2].

Is a RIC good for severe hearing loss?

Often yes — with a Power (P) or High-Power (HP) receiver and usually a custom earmold. For very profound loss, an audiologist may instead recommend a Behind-The-Ear (BTE) device.

Hearing Loss and Dementia: Can Treating Hearing Loss Help Protect Your Brain?

From our article: Hearing Loss and Dementia: Can Treating Hearing Loss Help Protect Your Brain?

Does hearing loss cause dementia?

Research shows a strong link, but not final proof of direct cause. Hearing loss is counted as a risk factor, and the greater the loss, the higher the risk [1][2].

Can hearing aids prevent dementia?

No hearing aid can promise this. However, in a 2023 trial, treating hearing loss slowed memory decline in older adults at higher risk [3], and hearing aids clearly help you hear and stay connected.

I have only mild hearing loss — should I worry?

There is no need to worry, but it is wise to get tested. Even mild loss is linked with higher risk [2], and acting early is easier and more effective.

At what age should I get a hearing test?

A good idea is a baseline hearing test around age 60, or earlier if you notice any difficulty.

Will treating hearing loss improve memory straight away?

Hearing treatment mainly improves communication and reduces mental strain. Any brain-health benefits build up over a longer period and vary from person to person.

Is this relevant for India specifically?

Yes. Indian studies link greater hearing loss with lower cognitive scores in older adults [5][6], yet very few people who could benefit use hearing aids [4].

"Best Hearing Aids for Severe Hearing Loss in India (2026): RIC vs Power BTE Compared — Widex, Phonak, ReSound, Signia & Bernafon"

From our article: "Best Hearing Aids for Severe Hearing Loss in India (2026): RIC vs Power BTE Compared — Widex, Phonak, ReSound, Signia & Bernafon"

What is the best hearing aid for severe hearing loss?

There's no single "best" — it depends on whether your loss is at the severe (71–90 dB) or profound (91+ dB) end, and your lifestyle. High-power RICs like the Phonak Audéo Sphere Infinio, ReSound Vivia, or Widex Allure 440 work well for severe loss, while Power BTEs like the Phonak Naida Lumity, ReSound Enzo IA, or Bernafon Leox are typically better for profound loss.

Can a RIC hearing aid work for severe hearing loss?

Yes — RIC models with a UP (ultra-power) receiver can be fitted up to 110–115 dB HL, which covers most severe hearing loss and some profound cases. However, they're more prone to feedback (whistling) at very high gain than a Power BTE.

What's the difference between a Power BTE and a Super Power BTE?

Both are behind-the-ear devices built for high-gain amplification. "Super Power" typically extends the fitting range further (often to 120 dB HL) and is intended specifically for profound hearing loss, while "Power" BTEs generally cover severe loss.

Which hearing aid brands offer AI features for severe hearing loss?

Phonak (Audéo Sphere Infinio, DeepSonic AI chip), ReSound (Vivia and Enzo IA, DNN AI chip), and Bernafon (Encanta, AI-driven Smart Noise Reduction) currently offer the most explicitly AI-branded technology in India, across both RIC and Power BTE form factors.

Are severe hearing loss hearing aids more expensive?

Generally yes, at the flagship end — high-power and AI-enabled devices can cost ₹3,00,000–₹4,50,000+ per unit. However, every brand also offers reliable entry-level power BTEs in the ₹30,000–₹60,000 range that are well-suited to severe and profound loss without AI features.

Signia Styletto IX: 7IX vs 5IX vs 3IX

From our article: Signia Styletto IX: 7IX vs 5IX vs 3IX

What is the difference between Signia Styletto 7IX, 5IX and 3IX?

All three share the same slim, rechargeable design and Bluetooth. The difference is the technology tier: 7IX is premium with the most automatic processing for noisy environments, 5IX is the balanced all-rounder, and 3IX is the essential tier for quieter, routine settings.

Is the Styletto 7IX worth the extra money?

If you spend a lot of time in noisy or demanding situations — restaurants, meetings, crowds — the 7IX’s faster, more precise processing is worth it. For mostly everyday use, the 5IX usually offers the best value.

Are all Styletto IX models rechargeable and Bluetooth-enabled?

Yes. The slim design, rechargeable battery, portable charging case and Bluetooth streaming are the same across 7IX, 5IX and 3IX — only the processing tier changes.

Which Signia Styletto IX is best for me?

Choose by lifestyle: 7IX for busy, noisy lives; 5IX for balanced everyday use and value; 3IX for quieter routines and tighter budgets. A trial with an audiologist is the best way to decide.
