How much does CGHS pay for a hearing aid in 2026?
CGHS pays up to ₹30,000 per ear for a hearing aid, or the actual price if that is lower, under Office Memorandum No. S.11030/76/2026-EHS dated 9 September 2026. For both ears the limit is up to ₹60,000, where fitting both ears is clinically justified. The limit includes GST and all taxes, and nothing extra is paid for the charger, fitting, programming or counselling.
| Hearing aid | Old rules (1 December 2020) | New rules (9 September 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Digital behind-the-ear (BTE) | ₹8,000 per ear | Up to ₹30,000 per ear |
| Digital in-the-canal (ITC / CIC) | ₹9,000 per ear | Up to ₹30,000 per ear |
| Both ears | Twice the per-ear limit | Up to ₹60,000, if clinically justified |
| Must be rechargeable? | No | Yes — standard charger included |
| Replacement | After 5 years | After 5 years, no condemnation certificate needed |
Can I choose a hearing aid that costs more than ₹30,000? Yes. You may choose a more advanced hearing aid and pay the difference yourself; CGHS still reimburses only up to the limit.
Which hearing aids qualify for CGHS reimbursement?
Only a standard digital, programmable and rechargeable hearing aid — behind-the-ear or in-the-canal — that meets the minimum specification in Annexure-I of the 2026 order qualifies. Body-worn (pocket) and analogue hearing aids are not reimbursed, and a hearing aid that runs on disposable batteries does not meet the new specification.
- Fully digital and computer-programmable; a current model, not discontinued
- At least 8 independent channels or bands, with multichannel compression
- An automatic programme plus at least 3 other listening programmes
- Directional microphones and digital noise reduction for speech in noise
- Adaptive feedback cancellation (stops whistling) and programmable maximum output
- Data logging and in-clinic reprogramming with the maker’s software
- Rechargeable, with the standard charger included in the price
- At least 3 years’ comprehensive warranty on the hearing aid and the charger
Who can get a hearing aid under CGHS?
CGHS beneficiaries and people covered by the CS(MA) Rules, 1944 can claim — that includes Central Government pensioners, serving employees, beneficiaries from autonomous bodies covered by CGHS, and their eligible dependants. You must not have received or been reimbursed for a hearing aid at Government expense in the last five years.
What about DGEHS for Delhi Government employees and pensioners?
DGEHS (the Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme) has followed CGHS for hearing aids: it formally adopted the CGHS hearing-aid order of 1 December 2020 by its own order. Before you buy, please check with your DGEHS dispensary or department whether DGEHS has also adopted the new 9 September 2026 limits — we will help you with the paperwork either way.
How do I get a hearing aid through CGHS, step by step?
Getting a hearing aid through CGHS takes six steps, and the paperwork must be complete at each one.
See an ENT specialist
At a Government hospital or AIIMS no referral is needed. For a private CGHS-empanelled hospital, take a referral from your Wellness Centre — unless you are 70 or older in Delhi-NCR, where direct OPD consultation is allowed.
Hearing test and ENT prescription
The ENT recommends a hearing aid based on your audiogram. The prescription must state your need and the required output, must not name a brand or model, and the audiogram must be signed by the ENT consultant.
Get permission before you buy
Pensioners apply to the Additional Director, CGHS of their city; serving employees to their Head of Department. You sign an undertaking (Annexure-II). Keep the original permission letter.
Buy a hearing aid that meets the specification
The invoice must show the seller’s name, qualification and RCI/MCI registration number, and the hearing aid’s make, model, serial number, amount and GST. Keep the empty box with its label.
Submit your claim
Pensioners hand in Form MRC(P) with original documents at their own Wellness Centre; serving employees submit to their own office. You receive a dated acknowledgement and a Claim ID by SMS.
Track and receive payment
Track the claim on the CGHS website or the myCGHS app using your Claim ID. If anything is missing, you are told by SMS.
What documents do I need for a CGHS hearing aid claim?
A CGHS hearing aid claim needs the claim form plus about a dozen supporting papers, most of them in original.
- Medical Reimbursement Claim form — MRC(P) for pensioners, MRC(S) for serving employees
- Referral letter from the Wellness Centre (where a referral applies)
- ENT prescription (brand-neutral) and audiogram signed by the ENT consultant
- Copy of the CGHS card (and of the card holder’s, if the patient is a dependant)
- Original permission letter and a copy of your undertaking (Annexure-II)
- Original tax invoice with RCI/MCI number, serial number, amount and GST
- The empty hearing-aid box with its original label
- Proof the hearing aid meets the specification, with the fitting and verification record
- 3-year comprehensive warranty certificate and authorised-supply documents
- Payment receipt and a cancelled cheque in the claimant’s own name

Frequently asked questions
From 9 September 2026, CGHS reimburses the actual cost of a hearing aid or ₹30,000 per ear, whichever is lower, including GST and all taxes. For a clinically justified fitting of both ears, the limit is up to ₹60,000, subject to the actual amount spent.
Under the order of 1 December 2020, CGHS paid ₹8,000 per ear for a digital behind-the-ear hearing aid and ₹9,000 per ear for a digital in-the-canal hearing aid.
No. The 2026 order requires a standard digital, programmable and rechargeable hearing aid with the charger included, so a hearing aid that uses disposable batteries does not meet the specification. Body-worn and analogue hearing aids are also excluded.
Yes. CGHS reimburses up to the limit and you pay the difference yourself. Premium features such as Bluetooth streaming or app control do not increase the amount reimbursed.
No referral is needed at a Government hospital or AIIMS at any age. In Delhi-NCR, CGHS beneficiaries aged 70 and above may also consult specialists at CGHS-empanelled hospitals directly, without a Wellness Centre referral, under an August 2024 CGHS Delhi notice. Below 70, a private empanelled hospital needs a referral.
For CGHS pensioners, the Additional Director of CGHS for the city gives permission. For serving employees and beneficiaries of autonomous bodies, the Head of Department or Office gives it. Permission is based on the ENT specialist's recommendation and a signed undertaking.
Once every five years. A replacement is allowed only five years after the purchase or reimbursement of the previous hearing aid, and no condemnation certificate is needed after that period.
DGEHS (Delhi Government Employees Health Scheme) adopted the CGHS hearing-aid order of 1 December 2020 by its own order. Please confirm with your DGEHS dispensary or department whether the new limits of 9 September 2026 have also been adopted for DGEHS before you buy.
Yes. We explain each step, check your documents against the official checklist, and supply a hearing aid that meets the Government specification with an invoice showing the audiologist's RCI registration number and the hearing aid's serial number. The decision on every claim is made only by CGHS or your department.
