Free hearing test in Delhi

A hearing test at Fairfield Hearing Clinics is free and takes about 30 to 45 minutes. An RCI-registered audiologist checks your ears, measures how softly you can hear different pitches, tests how clearly you understand speech and checks your middle ear — then explains the results in plain language. There is no obligation to buy anything.

What happens during a hearing test?

A hearing test at Fairfield has four parts, done in a quiet test room by an RCI-registered audiologist.

1

Questions and ear check

We ask about your hearing, health and daily life, then look into your ears with a small light (otoscope) to check for wax or infection.

2

Pure-tone audiometry

You wear headphones and press a button each time you hear a beep. This finds the softest sound you can hear at each pitch, in each ear.

3

Speech audiometry

You repeat words at different volumes. This shows how clearly you understand speech — which matters most when choosing a hearing aid.

4

Middle-ear check (tympanometry)

A soft tip in the ear changes the air pressure for a few seconds to check the eardrum and middle ear. It does not hurt.

Children are tested with methods suited to their age, which can include an OAE screening (a quick test of the inner ear that needs no answers from the child).

What will my hearing test results show?

Your hearing test results are drawn on an audiogram — a chart of the softest sounds you heard at each pitch, for each ear. Your audiologist explains what it means for you before you leave:

Degrees of hearing loss
ResultSoftest sound heardWhat it usually feels like
Normal hearingup to 20 dBConversation is easy, even quiet speech
Mild loss20–35 dBSoft voices and noisy places are harder
Moderate loss35–50 dBAsking people to repeat; TV volume goes up
Moderately severe loss50–65 dBMost conversation is hard without a hearing aid
Severe loss65–80 dBOnly loud speech is heard
Profound loss80 dB or moreVery loud sounds only; powerful hearing aids or a cochlear implant may be considered

Grades follow the World Health Organization’s World Report on Hearing (2021). Your audiologist looks at the whole picture, not only one number.

If the test suggests a medical problem — for example sudden hearing loss, ear discharge, or hearing loss in one ear only — we refer you to an ENT doctor first. Sudden hearing loss should be seen by an ENT doctor urgently, ideally within 24–48 hours.

Do I need a hearing test?

You should get a hearing test if you often ask people to repeat themselves, turn the TV up higher than others like, struggle in noisy places, hear ringing in your ears, or a family member has noticed a change. Hearing usually changes slowly, so most people notice it years after it starts.

How do I prepare for a hearing test?

To prepare for a hearing test, bring any old hearing reports and your current hearing aids (if you have them), and a list of your medicines. Try to avoid very loud noise for a day before the test, and do not clean your ears with cotton buds — we check for wax ourselves.

Is the hearing test really free?

Yes. The hearing test at Fairfield Hearing Clinics is free, and there is no obligation to buy a hearing aid. If a hearing aid would help, we explain the options and their prices per ear in writing — see our hearing aid price list.

Where can I get my hearing tested?

You can get your hearing tested at our clinics in New Friends Colony and Hari Nagar, Delhi, or at home anywhere in Delhi NCR.

Who does the hearing test?

Every hearing test at Fairfield is done by an RCI-registered audiologist — a hearing specialist registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India. You can meet our team on the About us page.

If you are a CGHS beneficiary, the audiogram from our test is the report your ENT specialist needs for a hearing aid claim. See CGHS hearing aids.

Already have a hearing aid that does not feel right? Bring it along — we can check it on the same visit.
