Why a three-year review tells you something a launch review cannot A launch review can tell you what a hearing aid claims to do. It cannot tell you whether the claim survives contact with real ears, real living rooms and real Indian wedding halls. The Signia IX Series has now been on sale for three years. In that time an independent laboratory has measured it, the family has grown from two models to six, a newer Signia platform has arrived above it, and thousands of people have posted about living with it. That is enough evidence to answer the questions that actually decide whether somebody is happy with a hearing aid three years after buying it. **How we have handled the sources** Every figure in this article is labelled with where it came from: Signia's own research, independent laboratory testing, or individual owners posting publicly. These carry very different weight. We have included the criticisms as well as the praise, because a review that only reports good news is an advertisement. ## 2. WS Audiology also sells the same underlying technology under its **Rexton** brand - Rexton introduced the IX technology in the United States in March 2024, and long-term forum users have noted that the earlier Rexton Bicore was effectively identical to the Signia Pure Charge&Go AX [5]. This is normal industry practice, but knowing it helps you ask better questions about price. ## 3. The idea behind IX, in plain language Signia's previous generation, **Augmented Xperience (AX)**, introduced **Augmented Focus** - a split-processing approach using dual speech processors and binaural beamforming microphones to process speech and background noise *separately*, creating a deliberate contrast between the two [1][3]. IX keeps that and adds **RealTime Conversation Enhancement (RTCE)**. Signia describes it working in three stages [1][2]: Stage What Signia says happens **Analyze** 192,000 data points per second are processed to detect speakers and analyse conversation dynamics **Augment** Multiple focus streams lock onto and dynamically highlight each speaker's voice in noise, while Augmented Focus split processing handles the background separately **Adapt** Signia's patented Multi-Stream Architecture updates 1,000 times per second, merging the focus streams into a dynamic auditory space that adapts as the conversation evolves The plain-English version: a conventional hearing aid points one beam forward and hopes the person you want is in it. IX tries to hold **several conversation partners at once** and keep tracking them as they - or you - move around. ### A number worth being careful about Signia's publicity says IX increases the number of focus streams **from two to five** compared with AX. That statement carries a footnote in Signia's own material: *"Number of focus streams varies per technology level"* [2]. Independent product documentation puts it more concretely. HearingTracker's comparison of the technology levels lists **Advanced Focus Streams as 3 on the premium 7IX and 1 on the advanced 5IX** [3]. So the figure of five is a platform maximum rather than something every buyer receives. This is not dishonest, but it is the kind of detail that decides whether a patient feels they got what was described to them. ## 4. The most important finding in this article HearAdvisor is an independent laboratory with no commercial stake in the outcome. It tests every hearing aid twice: once on **Initial Fit** - the manufacturer's own recommended settings, which is what many people actually walk out wearing - and once on **Tuned Fit**, after professional adjustment with real-ear measurement [3]. The gap between those two results, for the Signia IX, is the single most useful thing we can tell you. Speech performance was lower than expected - and IX scored **worse than Signia's previous AX generation** in this category A comfortable but under-amplified fit. Earned an **A SoundGrade** The device the marketing describes. An estimated **50% improvement in word recognition** compared with listening unaided, in the test settings **Read that table twice** The same hearing aid, on the same test ears, went from performing worse than the model it replaced to earning an A grade - with no change of hardware, no upgrade and no extra payment. The only difference was whether a professional verified the output in the ear canal. **The reviewing audiologist's conclusion was blunt: "the manufacturer first-fit settings across all hearing aid manufacturers should be double-checked by your audiologist with REM" [3]. This is not a Signia-specific failing - it is an industry-wide one. But on IX it was measured, and the size of the gap was unusually large.** Two other laboratory findings are worth recording, both positive. **Feedback control was excellent** - no squealing was present even in extreme test cases. And **own-voice quality scored above average** for prescription devices, because with the ear tip used the device did not occlude the ear, so wearers should not experience an exaggerated boomy voice [3]. ## 5. What you actually get at each technology level Signia sells IX at three main levels. The differences are not cosmetic, and this is where Indian buyers most often misunderstand what they are paying for. There are thirteen documented differences in total between the premium and advanced levels. **The question to ask at the counter** If a patient is being sold IX specifically because of the conversation-tracking technology, and they are quoted a 3IX or a Silk, they are not buying the thing that was described to them. Ask which level, and ask what RTCE does at that level. A lower level can still be an excellent hearing aid - it just is not the one in the advertisement. ## 6. Battery, charging and the two Bluetooth versions Battery life is one of the IX platform's genuine strengths, and it is worth stating clearly because it compares favourably with several rival flagships. Auracast infrastructure is almost non-existent in India today, while induction loop systems, though limited, do exist in some auditoriums and places of worship. A telecoil is a benefit you might use; Auracast is a benefit you might use in several years. **That reasoning points many Indian patients towards the BCT or T versions - but it depends entirely on the individual's phone and daily life.** ### A limitation that catches people out The Silk Charge&Go IX - the tiny instant-fit CIC that attracts patients who want something invisible - **does not have the same wireless capabilities**. It gives up Bluetooth streaming and telecoil in exchange for its size [1][3]. It does have a built-in power bank and can be charged by USB or a Qi wireless charger. If a patient's main reason for buying is streaming phone calls or music, Silk is the wrong model however much they like the discretion. ## 7. What three years of owners actually report Here is where a long-term review earns its place. The most revealing debate among IX owners is not about sound quality or battery - it is about control. ### The complaint In June 2025 an owner posted that his IX aids were "not as good as my previous 7X Pure." His specific grievance was that with the older device he could switch out of surround mode and **focus forward** on the person opposite him, deadening sound from behind. At a luncheon he reported being unable to focus towards the stage and "had to listen to all the people behind me and around me." He called it "a major flaw" [6]. ### The direct contradiction Another owner replied in the same thread: "Just the opposite here; but I do know how to use the tech." In a crowd - a situation he had *never* managed well before - he could clearly understand two of three people in front of him, and reported that "the murmuring crowd sound seemed to decrease while the 2 people just cleared up." His verdict on the control question was simply: **"Focusing the mics is actually quite simple with the phone app."** He describes himself as a senior with no difficulty with the technology [6]. A third owner, who has worn nearly every generation of Siemens and Signia hearing aids over more than twenty years, wrote that the Pure Charge&Go 7 T IX "are the best" he has had - and suggested the unhappy user review the manuals and check which programmes had been loaded [6]. **Why we think this disagreement matters so much** The capability the first owner wanted does exist. The Signia app has a Directional hearing tab which overrides the automatic focus streams and can narrow the listening direction to as little as **15 degrees** - an unusually aggressive forward focus [3]. **So this is very likely not a device limitation at all. It is a fitting and training gap. Somebody sold him a hearing aid and did not show him the one control he most needed. That is a failure we can prevent at our counter, and it is the reason this article exists.** ### Other things owners mention - **Comfort is widely praised.** One long-term wearer of the Signia Active IX reported wearing them 18 hours a day for nearly a year and hardly noticing they are there. The reviewing audiologist also found Pure C&G IX comfortable and lightweight even while wearing glasses [3][5]. - **Sound quality suits musicians.** A working musician trialling Pure C&G IX described the sound as "very good and very natural," though he had to use the app to raise the treble balance close to maximum [5]. - **Bluetooth is generally solid, but not perfect.** Some owners have reported connection cutting out from an iPad and occasional Android connection issues; others report Android Bluetooth performing "pretty decent" over a year of use [5]. - **Feedback with the wrong coupling.** One owner using closed domes found feedback starting to creep in and concluded he needed custom moulds. A reply in the same thread made a point worth repeating to patients: proper ear moulds often do more than a hundred software adjustments, and should be sorted out first [5]. - **The TV streamer is liked.** Described by one owner as "fantastic albeit over priced" [5]. - **Auracast took time.** The firmware update was anticipated in early 2024 and the range remains described as Auracast-ready [3][5]. The honest summary of three years of owner reports is this: **when IX is fitted well and the wearer is shown the app, satisfaction is high. When it is fitted on defaults and nobody explains the controls, people feel they have gone backwards.** That pattern matches the laboratory data exactly, which is why we believe it. ## 8. Real innovation, or repackaging with flowery words? You ask us this about every product, and the IX gives an unusually clear-cut answer in both directions. ### The case that the innovation is real - **An independent laboratory confirmed the benefit - conditionally.** Once professionally fitted, IX scored an A SoundGrade, performed competitively with other flagship prescription hearing aids, and delivered **superior benefit to the AX generation it replaced** [3]. That is independent corroboration, not marketing. - **The multi-stream approach is a genuine architectural difference.** Tracking several speakers simultaneously rather than steering one beam is a real change in method, and at launch Signia was the only manufacturer describing multi-stream technology in these terms [2]. - **The measured claim is specific, not vague.** Signia reports a **4.1 dB signal-to-noise improvement** in noisy group environments [2]. A number that precise can be tested and challenged, which is more than most AI claims offer. - **Battery life genuinely improved** over AX - from 34 hours to up to 39 hours - while adding processing load [3]. - **The family was properly built out.** Within eighteen months the platform went from two models to a full range including Slim-RIC, custom IIC and CIC, BTE and CROS, rather than remaining a single flagship [2]. ### The case for scepticism - **The headline evidence is Signia's own.** Both the 95% clarity figure and the 4.1 dB SNR improvement are referenced to Jensen et al. (2023), **Signia White Papers** - the company's own publications, not independent peer-reviewed journals [2]. - **The default settings did not deliver.** A flagship that measures worse than its own predecessor on the manufacturer's recommended programming is a real criticism, however easily corrected [3]. - **The feature is not uniform across the range.** Marketing describes five focus streams; the premium level provides three advanced focus streams and the advanced level one, while Silk does not offer RTCE at all [2][3]. - **The same technology is sold under another badge.** WS Audiology also markets the platform through Rexton, and forum users have documented near-identical devices across the two brands at different prices [5]. - **Some experienced users felt they lost something.** The move towards automatic scene handling took away, at least in the perception of some long-standing Signia wearers, the simple manual forward focus they had relied on [6]. **Holding both at once** Both columns are true. There is real engineering here and an independent laboratory verified the benefit — which is more than can be said for many products sold on the word innovation. At the same time, the promotional numbers come from the company's own research, the benefit is uneven across the range, and the device as commonly delivered was measurably not the device as advertised. **So we offer no verdict. We offer a method: judge this hearing aid on how it performs on your own ears after proper verification, in the rooms where you actually struggle - and make sure the level in front of you is the one the claims refer to.** ## 9. Where the IX Series sits in late 2026 This matters commercially and nobody selling you an IX is likely to volunteer it. On **24 August 2026 Signia launched the Pure Charge&Go MaX** on a new platform, built around what Signia calls Acoustic Intelligence -four task-specific neural networks. The IX Series is therefore no longer Signia's newest technology. What this means Practical consequence **IX is now the previous generation** Expect discounting. A previous-generation flagship is often the best value in the entire market, because the technology has not changed but the price has **The platform is mature** Three years of firmware refinement, a full model range, and a known set of strengths and weaknesses. Nothing is a surprise any more **Independent testing already exists** Unlike a brand-new launch, you are not relying on the manufacturer's word. The lab results are published **Support continues** Signia continues to service and fine-tune IX devices; buying a previous-generation platform does not orphan you **But ask about the price gap** If a clinic quotes IX at close to MaX pricing, that is worth questioning. A well-fitted 7IX will serve most people extremely well. Whether it should cost the same as the newest platform is a fair question to put to whoever is quoting you. ## 10. India: prices and what they actually mean Indian hearing aid pricing for the IX range varies more than almost any product we review. Rather than pretend there is one number, here is the honest picture. The only price that means anything is a written quotation that states the exact model, the technology level, whether it is per ear or per pair, what fitting and follow-up is included, and the warranty period. Ask for that in writing before paying anything.** One further point that is specific to India and rarely discussed. For CGHS beneficiaries, the reimbursement ceiling is ₹30,000 per ear inclusive of GST. On a device in this price band that covers only a fraction of the cost, and the balance is payable by the patient. The bottom line Three years is long enough for a hearing aid to be judged on evidence rather than adjectives, and the Signia IX Series comes out of that examination with an unusual and rather useful story. The core idea is real. Tracking several moving speakers instead of pointing one beam at one person is a genuine change of method, and an independent laboratory with no commercial interest confirmed that a properly fitted IX performs at the top tier and beats the generation it replaced. But the same laboratory found that the device as commonly delivered - on the manufacturer's own recommended settings - gave less amplification than it should and performed *worse* than the older model. Three years of owner reports show precisely the same split: people who were properly fitted and shown the app are delighted; people who were not feel they went backwards. What none of that tells us is whether it is right for you. That depends on your audiogram, your ears, whether you need streaming or a telecoil, which technology level you can afford, and - above all - who fits it. **Our job is to give you the verified information and be honest about its limits. Both use Signia's Augmented Focus split processing, which handles speech and background noise separately. IX adds RealTime Conversation Enhancement, which uses multiple simultaneous focus streams to track several moving speakers rather than steering a single beam. IX also improved battery life from 34 hours to up to 39 hours. Independent testing found IX superior to AX once professionally fitted, but actually worse than AX when left on manufacturer default settings. What is RealTime Conversation Enhancement? + It is Signia's system for following group conversations. It works in three stages: Analyze, processing 192,000 data points per second to detect speakers; Augment, using multiple focus streams to highlight each speaker's voice in noise; and Adapt, with a Multi-Stream Architecture that updates 1,000 times per second as the conversation moves. Note that the feature is reduced at lower technology levels and is not available in the Silk models. Is the Signia IX good for hearing in noisy places? + Independent HearAdvisor testing found that when professionally programmed with real-ear measurement, Signia Pure Charge&Go IX performed competitively with other flagship prescription hearing aids and earned an A SoundGrade, with an estimated 50% improvement in word recognition compared with listening unaided in the test conditions. On manufacturer default settings the result was considerably poorer, so proper fitting is essential to get this benefit. What is the battery life of the Signia Pure Charge&Go IX? + Signia states up to 39 hours without streaming and up to 34 hours with five hours of streaming. The BCT IX version, which uses more power-hungry Bluetooth Classic, is rated at 36 hours including up to five hours of streaming. Styletto IX offers up to 20 hours. Recharging takes roughly three to four hours, and the Pure Portable Charger provides three additional full charges away from mains power. Are there known problems with the Signia IX? + The most frequently discussed issue among long-term owners is directional control. Some wearers moving from older Signia models felt they had lost the ability to focus the microphones forward manually. Other owners in the same discussions say the app does this easily, including narrowing the focus to 15 degrees. Other reported points include occasional Bluetooth disconnection on iPad and Android, feedback where closed domes were used instead of custom moulds, and the absence of any disposable battery option. The most consistently documented weakness is the manufacturer's default programming, which independent testing showed under-amplifies. What is the price of Signia IX hearing aids in India? + Indian pricing varies very widely between sellers. Indicative pair prices are approximately Rs 7,24,990 for the 7IX, Rs 4,99,900 for the 5IX and Rs 3,49,990 for the 3IX, while published Indian per-unit listings range from roughly Rs 43,990 to Rs 3,79,990 depending on level and retailer. Always obtain a written quotation stating the exact model, technology level, whether the price is per ear or per pair, and what fitting, follow-up and warranty are included. Does the Signia Silk Charge&Go IX have Bluetooth? + No. The Silk Charge&Go IX was the world's first rechargeable, instant-fit completely-in-canal hearing aid, but to achieve its very small size it gives up the Bluetooth LE Audio streaming available in the rest of the IX range, and it does not have a telecoil. It does include a built-in power bank and can be charged by USB or a Qi wireless charger. If direct phone streaming matters to you, Silk is not the right model. Is the Signia IX still worth buying now that a newer platform exists? + We do not offer a verdict. What can be said factually is that Signia launched the Pure Charge&Go MaX on a new platform on 24 August 2026, so IX is now the previous generation. That usually means discounting, and a previous-generation flagship with three years of firmware maturity and published independent lab results can represent strong value.
